Get Ready for Fall – RV Road Trip Idea: Exploring Scenic Drives

Posted on Aug 28, 2023

It’s hard to believe that summer is slowly coming to an end, with students begrudgingly heading back to school. While summer vacation may be nearing an end, that does not mean Orange County RV rental season is also drawing to a close. No matter the month of the year, if you are hoping to rent an RV in Orange County, look no further than 1st Choice RV.

With a huge inventory and affordable prices, 1st Choice has cemented its place as the best provider of Orange County RV rental offerings. When it comes to summer vs fall RVing, our expert team would make a strong case for the latter. Quieter roads and campgrounds, more affordable off-season pricing, and vibrant California autumn landscapes make the next few months some of our favorite to travel. What follows are some of our favorite scenic drives to do during the autumn months in your Orange County RV rental as well as some favorite stops and activities along the way.

Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lakes is home to many beautiful alpine lakes, all of which make for ideal camping and exploring destinations in the autumn months. Fifteen minutes from the town of Mammoth is Convict Lake, the perfect destination after you rent an Orange County RV. This stunning lake boasts the Eastern Sierra as its backdrop and is stocked with rainbow trout for some excellent high-mountain fishing. Just over 10 miles north of Mammoth is June Lake, another picturesque destination that makes a good case for autumn in the summer vs fall RVing debate. This loop pulls off of Highway 395 to join State Route 158 before rejoining 395 yet again. Fall colors peak here in September and October, with big views from the road boasting yellow aspen intermixed with healthy evergreen forests. The loop itself will take you past four unique lakes, all offering plenty of opportunities to get out and hike, fish, take photographs, or just relax on the shore.

Yosemite National Park

It is nearly impossible to omit Yosemite National Park off of any of our lists. This crown jewel of California is popular for a reason, and at 1st Choice RV we believe fall is the best time to visit. Cool temperatures and comparatively quiet crowds will welcome you into this paradise, and as summer turns to fall, the landscape transforms from lush green woods and meadows to fields and forests ablaze with yellows, oranges, and browns. Autumn is the perfect time to enjoy Yosemite on your feet by hiking any of the hundreds of miles of trails available to visitors. There is also something special about the autumn light when it comes to photography. Finally, fall is the best rock climbing season in Yosemite Valley so keep your eyes peeled on the monstrous granite cliffs for brave athletes testing their strength and wits with some of the premiere rock climbing in the world.

Napa Valley

If you have the time to point your rental RV north, do yourself a favor and visit Napa Valley in the fall. Again, not only are the crowds diminished, but the views and scenery with changing colors are hard to beat. Autumn is harvest season in Napa, which means the entire region plays host to grape crushes and harvest festivals. Couple this with a hot air balloon ride, strolls through the redwoods, and time on the Pacific Coast as you travel to and from Southern California, and we challenge you to find a more enjoyable way to spend a fall vacation.

When it comes time for you to rent an RV in Orange County, look no further than 1st Choice RV. With a vehicle for every type of traveler and at every price point, we are simply the best in the business. Give us a call for more fall road trip ideas or to reserve your motorhome today!
