Tips When RVing with Pets

One of the greatest things about snagging an Orange County rental and hitting the road on an RV road trip is that you can comfortably bring the entire family along for the adventure. No matter your timeline or interests, you can build an itinerary that will please everyone in your clan. As we all know pets, too, are part of the family. When it comes to taking your Orange County RV rentals on a road trip with your pets there are a few things to consider. The experts at 1st Choice RV have been helping people see the world from the road for years and have assisted all types of families, with all kinds of pets, have vacations they will never forget. Below are our five essential tips for RVing with pets.

Bring all the Essentials

Just as it can be useful to create a packing list for yourself, do the same for your pet. Be sure to bring water and food bowls, a leash, his/her favorite toy/s, a crate, plenty of food, and anything else that will make your furriest family member feel right at home. While there are certainly places to shop for pet supplies on the road, that is the last thing you want to be worried about when on vacation!

Bring your Pet’s Information

Because you will be traveling, you will not have ready access to your pet’s critical information file stored at home. Take pictures or bring along copies of the following in case something were to happen such as a disappearance or visit to the vet:

  • Vaccination records (some campgrounds require them!)
  • Photographs of your pet (in case it runs away)
  • Proof of ownership (in case it’s found!)
  • Service animal forms (if applicable)
  • Paperwork for any medications/allergies/special needs

Do your Research

As you plan your itinerary, don’t forget to pay special attention to any pet restrictions in the places you plan on visiting. Each campground will have different regulations and requirements that may prevent you from staying their depending on the animal you have in tow. Further, most all national parks will not allow dogs on their trails. If you do your research ahead of time you can create a perfect itinerary that meets all of your, and your pet’s, needs.

Build and set a Routine

Pets are creatures of habit and love their routine. The act of getting an Orange County trailer rental and hitting the road for a long weekend or weeks at a time will naturally disrupt the normal day-to-day schedule. While there is nothing you can do about that, you can do your best to establish a new routine as similar to normal life as possible. This will help keep your pets healthy, happy, and excited to keep the adventure going!

Don’t forget about Exercise

Just like at home you should prioritize exercise – for both you and your pet – when on the road. While going for a walk or run after a long day driving your Orange County RV rentals may be the last thing on your radar, remember that your dog or cat has been laying low the entire time you were driving. You owe it to them to give them some exercise, and chances are your legs will need some stretching after a day behind the wheel as well!
