The Best Hidden Beaches to visit this Spring in Southern California

Posted on Apr 18, 2022

Most folks who reserve RV rentals in Southern California want to spend at least a couple of days on our famous beaches.  Unfortunately, large crowds can be commonplace at some of the more popular destinations such as Santa Monica or Venice, and that can be enough to turn people away from a beautiful day on the Pacific.  Thankfully, Southern California has its fair share of hidden beaches as well, and there are many beaches off-the-beaten-path that will allow you to avoid the crowds.

Here at 1st Choice RV – the leaders in Orange County RV rentals – we appreciate the value of secluded beaches and quiet time on the ocean more than anyone else. While these hidden gems can be hard to find, they are out there! Below are three of our favorite hidden beaches in Southern California that you could consider for your upcoming RV rental trip.

San Onofre State Beach

San Onofre State Beach, and more specifically Bluff’s Beach, is the perfect escape for those Orange County RV rentals looking for a little seclusion. Despite being located between Oceanside and San Clemente, Bluff’s Beach remains a quiet retreat. This is surprising because the six trails that descend to the beach from the parking lot are spectacular in their own right and offer excellent access to many different corners of this stretch of sand.

Cameo Shores Beach

For those drawn to a more adventurous approach for their Southern California RV rental, Cameo Shores Beach is the right call. Park at Little Corona Del Mar Beach and walk along the rocky coast until you reach the sandy spits of Cameo Shores Beach. The hike itself is fun and rewarding, and this stroll offers excellent tide-pooling if you time it with low tide.

Treasure Cove Beach

Treasure Cove Beach is located on the Pacific Coast Highway – arguably the best stretch of road for your Orange County RV rental road trip – and offers an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of Southern California. This spot is big with both surfers and divers but remains pretty quiet on the sand. There are many scenic paths that create excellent opportunities for exploration. Keep your eyes peeled during the spring months, and you may even get lucky and spot a gray whale moving through on its annual migration.

El Matador State Beach

El Matador State Beach is just over an hour from the heart of Los Angeles and provides a secluded retreat hidden far away from the hustle and bustle of the City of Angels.  The rugged cliffs and rock formations add to the beauty while also creating sheltered coves perfect for a little oceanside reflection.

Shaw’s Cove

Head south from Los Angeles to Laguna Beach and prepare to be stunned by the beauty and quietude of Shaw’s Cove.  With many other popular beaches attracting crowds in the area, Shaw’s Cove provides the perfect alternative.  You can park your Orange County RV Rental for free in the nearby residential area and access the beach through a semi-hidden path tucked between two homes.  Once on the coast, enjoy the beautiful sand, dramatic rock formations, and a rare bit of privacy in Southern California.

Hike to the Seclusion of Little Corona

Discreetly tucked between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach is Little Corona or the Robert E. Badham Marine Conservation Area.  The nearby Corona del Mar State Beach attracts the majority of both locals and visitors to the area, but the beauty and solitude of Little Corona are well worth the relative hassle to get there.  After you find some on-street parking for your RV, take the walk down a lifeguard access road and find yourself surrounded by the beauty and seclusion of your own private cove.

Although no California road trip is complete without at least one day on the beach, we understand how the crowds and hassle can be discouraging. But fear not! After calling 1st Choice RV for RV rental prices in California and making your reservation, cruise on down to one of these beaches for an intimate and quiet ocean getaway.
