Enjoy Some World Class Stargazing with your Los Angeles Pop up Trailer Rentals

Posted on Jun 19, 2017

Each summer, camping provides thousands of individuals and families the perfect opportunity to reconnect with the natural world.  This summer you, too, can join in on the fun with your Los Angeles pop up trailer rentals from 1st Choice RV.   As you begin to explore the countless places to visit and camp in California, you may soon become overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of views, vistas, hiking trails, and landmarks worth visiting.  At the end of the day, however, the act of simply getting out and experiencing the beauty of nature is what camping is all about.  There is perhaps no better reminder of this than gazing up at the stars after an unforgettable day of adventure.  This summer, check out one of these three star gazing destinations as you cruise the roads with your Los Angeles pop up trailer rentals.

Marvel at the Stars while Dwarfed by Redwoods

North of San Francisco, in Mt. Tamalpais State Park, is one of California’s top places to view the stars.  The varying ecosystems and breathtaking scenery make this place worth a visit regardless but, if you’re aim is for unobstructed views of the night-sky, than the Cushing Memorial Amphitheater in the park is a must-visit.  This is also the primary destination for Bay Area astronomy nights, so be sure to check the San Francisco Amateur Astronomers site to plan your visit accordingly!

Borrego Springs: An International Dark Sky Community

Three hours southeast of Los Angeles, in the desert outside of San Diego, is Borrego Springs and the Anza Borrego Desert State Park.  This park is gigantic (600,00 acres!) and has so much to offer visitors.  Great hiking, diverse wildlife, and an otherworldly landscape attract visitors each year but, for those who prefer to look upwards, it is the town of Borrego Springs and surrounding area that is the true attraction.  As one of the best places on the planet to look at the stars, Anza Borrego Desert State Park is a worthy addition to any road trip.

View the Sky from nearly 9,000 ft up!

Mt. Pinos, (elevation 8,831 ft) can be found about an hour north of Los Angeles in the mountains outside of Santa Barbara.  This peak is a great place to visit anytime of year, day or night, and is a go-to spot for many stargazers around Southern California.  Specifically, the parking area at the Chula Vista Campground in Los Padres National Forest is the go-to spot on clear, dark nights.  Be sure to get there early (think late afternoon) on big astronomical nights, as the parking lot can fill up quickly!

Camping is a cherished tradition for many and for good reason.  Camping trips allow for one to form great relationships and memories with those they are traveling with and the natural world alike.  While days are often spent hiking, biking, fishing, or taking in the sights, the real time for reflection comes at night – as the sky turns dark and soon begins to twinkle.  If you, too, romanticize about stargazing in this country’s wild places consider penciling one of the above three destinations into your itinerary after picking up your Los Angeles pop up trailer rentals from 1st Choice RV.   We guarantee the views will not disappoint!
