Safe Travel Alternatives During Covid-19
Posted on May 27, 2020
Summer is right on the doorstep, but amidst all of the uncertainty with Covid-19 it seems that many adventurers are on the fence about what is acceptable and what is not when it comes to summer travel. The world is certainly different now than it was last year, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to cancel travel plans outright. In fact, given the alternative options, renting a motorhome this summer is a great choice for safe travel. You just may need to be a little more thoughtful about it. As always, 1st Choice RV is here to help. As we move into summer and the travel bug starts to bite, consider an RV road trip. If done appropriately, you and your family can still enjoy safe travel this summer season – just follow a few simple guidelines.
Choose More Primitive Campsites
California and the entire west coast is littered with great camping options. From privately owned commercial operations to government sponsored campgrounds, there is no shortage of places to park your RV for the night. While both offer great options, at 1st Choice RV we’ve always been proponents of finding beautiful, unique, and rustic campsites to have all to yourself. This is especially prudent during the Covid-19 pandemic. Sure you’ll be sacrificing some of the amenities of developed campgrounds, but at the same time you will not have to share anything with others. Not only will this limit your risk and exposure, but you’ll likely discover some incredible secret spots along the way.
Find Less Crowded Trailheads
One of the many perks of a summer RV road trip is getting out and exploring the great outdoors. While you may have had grand plans to hike in Yosemite National Park this summer, consider choosing a less crowded option if you are concerned about safe travel. There are countless beautiful hikes in the region – many of which see a small fraction of the crowds that Yosemite attracts. Buy a guide book and poke around for a hike that will keep you away from people and the associated risks of shared spaces.
Seek out Activities that Promote Social Distancing
Your family unit will be well isolated while living out of your rental motorhome this summer, and you generally will not risk spreading germs to each other. When you do venture out into the world to explore and adventure, though, deliberately choose activities that promote social distancing. It is easy to leave space between you and others when you are hiking, fishing, biking, surfing or kayaking. Instead of sitting in the ice cream parlor, get your cone to go and enjoy it in the fresh air. When you are out and about, remember to wash your hands and use sanitizer frequently and wear a mask when social distancing guidelines cannot be followed. Most summer activities can be done safely, but you need to put in just a little extra effort to do so.
All is not lost in the summer of Covid-19. While we all need to be a little more cautious, there are still safe and responsible ways to enjoy the great outdoors. RV rentals lend themselves to social distancing and isolation, and you can trust the experts at 1st Choice RV to thoroughly clean and sanitize all of our vehicles to lessen the risk of transmission as well. With conscious effort and thoughtfulness, we can work together to make this summer as fun as safely possible.
