Motorhome Movies to Watch before you Rent an RV in California

Posted on Aug 20, 2018

The road trip is a staple of American vacations, nearly as old as the country’s highway system itself. Each year, thousands upon thousands of Americans and foreigners alike take to our road system to explore the cities, cultures, and natural wonders that make this country the perfect place to explore with automobile. Since the advent of the motorhome the all-American road trip has become that much more comfortable and luxurious, and at 1st Choice RV more and more people are inquiring about how to rent an RV in California. Given the history of the road trip and the increasing comfort and style provided by today’s motorhomes, this is no surprise. If you looking to rent an RV in California but need that extra little bit of motivation, check out these classic motorhome movies to fuel your stoke!

The Long, Long Trailer

Released in 1953, this classic film has stood the test of time. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, famous for I Love Lucy, star as newlyweds living out of a motorhome in hopes of seeing the country together while Arnaz’s character has to travel for work. Of course things aren’t always as romantic as they seem, and the couple is soon struggling with all types of hilarious turmoil. The Long, Long Trailer will have you in stitches, and can even provide some ideas on what to avoid for your upcoming motorhome road trip!

National Lampoon’s Vacation and Christmas Vacation

While not strictly motorhome movies, these two comedies are quintessential family road trip films. Released in 1983 and 1989, respectively, both chronicle the mishaps and misadventures of vacations with Chevy Chase’s Griswold family. In Vacation, Chase’s character is hell-bent on getting his family to the amusement park Wally World. In Christmas Vacation, the Griswold’s host the whole family for the holidays – including a surprise appearance by Cousin Eddie who happens to show up in what else but a beat-up motorhome!

We’re the Millers

This 2013 motorhome-themed movie may not be family friendly but sure provides the laughs. Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Anniston star as two hard-on-their-luck neighbors caught in a major bind when an international drug deal goes awry. To remedy the situation, Sudeikis’ character assembles a fake family and large motorhome to go on a “family road trip” to Mexico to make right on his debts. Once again, this flick is decidedly not for the whole family but certainly give the adults a hearty chuckle or two!

There is nothing quite like an RV road trip, and 1st Choice RV is here to help you rent an RV in California perfect for your specific needs. One needs not look further than the movies to find the allure in traveling the country via motorhome. Let’s just hope your adventures all go smoother than those in the films above!
