A New Year’s Eve Cruise Aboard the Fume Blanc Commodore

San Francisco is a famous and beautiful port city and, as such, you should take some time to enjoy the beautiful coastline.  What better way than on a party cruise to ring in the New Year? This year’s event is Speakeasy themed, and patrons can expect Black Jack tables with dealers, two DJs between the 1st and 3rd decks, plenty of libations, and the best view in the city of the midnight fireworks display.

Celebrating Christmas in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is not typically what people think of when the holiday season arrives.  However Los Angeles, and California as a whole, is the perfect spot to embrace some seasonal festivities – especially if you are already planning a 1st Choice RV road trip this holiday season.  No matter where your motorhome vacation is taking you, consider spending some time in the City of Angeles either on the front or back end.  Whether you want to enjoy some holiday celebrations or explore the countless other things our city has to offer, you won’t be disappointed. If you are interested in some added wintery fun, check out these three local favorite activities and celebrations.

Ice Skating in Pershing Square

Whether you are visiting from a cold weather state or not, ice skating in Southern California is something of a novelty.  During your visit, head to the heart of downtown to Pershing Square and see for yourself how this small one square block green space can pack a magical punch.  During the winter months, until late January, the city builds an ice skating surrounded by the heart of L.A.’s skyscrapers. Over the course of the season, the rink also hosts special events like curling lessons and DJ nights.   Even if you are coming to Los Angeles to escape the cold back home, ice skating in Pershing Square is worthy of a visit.

Check out a Local Lighted Boat Parade

Lighted boat parades on California’s Pacific Coast have become a much anticipated holiday tradition, and if you find yourself here in the next month you should definitely add one to your calendar.  Each holiday season, countless coastal communities host these events where locals decorate their boats in accordance to varying holiday themes and, you guessed it, parade them down the coastline. Other fun holiday festivities accompany many of these events, and each provides the perfect avenue to celebrate the season even if you are far from home.  Locally, the Marina del Rey and Newport Beach boat parades are two of our favorites!

Check out Holiday Lights at the L.A. Zoo

Viewing Christmas lights is a favorite holiday tradition for many, and there are countless great places around Los Angeles to bask in the literal glow of the holiday season.  We are especially excited that the L.A. Zoo light display is back in action after a relatively long hiatus. Most animals will be asleep, but the lighting displays more than make up for that.  And, of course, no proper Christmas celebration would be complete without an appearance by Santa Claus and his reindeer – making this the perfect event for the entire family.

Los Angeles may not be the first place on your list to celebrate the holidays, but after just one visit it very well might be.  Check out some of the above events while you prepare or wind-down from your 1st Choice RV road trip, and prepare to celebrate the season in true California fashion!

Catch an NFL Game Live with your California RV Rentals

There are countless reasons to reserve RV rentals in California and set out to explore The Sunshine State.  While the state’s national parks and preserves host thousands of hikers, bikers, mountain climbers, campers and California RV rentals every summer, many of these places become a little more difficult to visit in the fall and winter months.  This time of year requires potential roadtrippers using RV rentals in California to be a little more creative in their route planning. At 1st Choice RV, one of our favorite motorhome past times is to travel and watch professional football games live.  Whether your home team is in town, you want to experience the stadiums and fans of California, or you enjoy grilling, tailgating, and partying in parking lots before the games The Sunshine State is home to four professional football teams and stadiums worth visiting.

Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles is home to not one but two NFL football teams, each providing a fun and unique live experience and both boasting a great start to the season.  Relatively new to L.A. from San Diego, the Chargers are currently playing home games at the StubHub Center in Carson Los Angeles before the move into the Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park –

under construction until 2020.  The Rams are off to an undefeated start and are widely regarded as one of the best teams in the NFL.  They currently play home games in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (home of the USC Trojans) and are the only professional football team to win championships representing three different cities.  Will they bring the Super Bowl trophy back to Los Angeles in 2018?

The Oakland Raiders

While unfortunately struggling this year, the Oakland Raiders are a storied franchise with one of the craziest fan bases in all of football.  The Black Hole at Oakland-Alameda County Stadium is a terrifying spectacle of fandom that, unfortunately, will be disseminated following next season.  The Oakland Raiders will be moving to Las Vegas, making this the second to last season that you can take your RV rental up to Oakland to experience the excitement and craziness that is the original Raiders football.

The San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have a long history of success backed by a cast of some of the league’s most historic players and teams.  Joe Montana and Steve Young have quarterbacked multiple Super Bowls for “the Niners” and, while the 2018 campaign has been anything but successful, the history and energy is still there.  The Niners play their home games at Levi’s Stadium – a state of the art arena built in 2014. If you are planning on heading north on your road trip, do yourself a favor and try and catch an NFl game in the Bay Area!

https://www.49ers.com

No matter how you cut it catching a live sports event is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening while on vacation, and doing so with California RV rentals adds so much to the fun.  Whether you want to catch your favorite team playing an away game in California or are just curious about exploring what Sunshine State fandom looks like at any number of stadiums, First Choice RV has the perfect vehicle for your sporting road trip needs.

Three Halloween Music Festivals to Explore in your California RV Rentals

There are countless things to do in The Golden State with your RV rentals in California, especially in the autumn months. Summer crowds have started to dissipate, but the weather is still beautiful and many campgrounds and attractions are still open. On top of that, Halloween and all of its associated festivities are just around the corner. Given the state’s diverse geography and culture there is guaranteed to be a Halloween festivity for everybody. For the music lovers out there, Halloween is a particularly good time to contact 1st Choice RV and line up RV rentals in California. Check out the below three Halloween-themed music festivals all offering a completely different experience in very different parts of the state.

WCKD in San Diego

On Saturday October 27th, head to the East Village in downtown San Diego for the city’s largest Halloween celebration. With four outdoor stages blasting hip-hop and dance music late into the night, holiday thrills and attractions, street games, and even a cash prize costume contest, it is no wonder people flock to San Diego from all over to take part in the festivities. If you plan on heading south in your RV rentals in California around Halloween, be sure to add WCKD to your must-do list.
https://wckdvillage.com/

Escape Psycho Circus

To experience a music festival a little more intense this Halloween, you don’t have to travel far. The NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California will host two nights (October 26th and 27th) of thrills and electronic dance music under the guise of a Psycho Circus. From 4pm to 2am each day, festival goers can expect to dance their shoes off at one of 4 different Halloween themed stages, marvel at the art installations and bright lights, costume watch, or get enchanted by ghoulish performers bringing their Halloween a-game.

Hangtown Music Festival

Of the three on our list, the Hangtown Music Festival in Placerville, California arguably provides the best option for an RV getaway. This four day celebration, held from October 25th – 28th, boasts a diverse array of music from bluegrass to funk, themed costume days, attractions aplenty, good food and drink, and a beautiful setting to boot. If heading to Northern California is on your radar, consider penciling Hangtown into your itinerary!

Motorhome Movies to Watch before you Rent an RV in California

The road trip is a staple of American vacations, nearly as old as the country’s highway system itself. Each year, thousands upon thousands of Americans and foreigners alike take to our road system to explore the cities, cultures, and natural wonders that make this country the perfect place to explore with automobile. Since the advent of the motorhome the all-American road trip has become that much more comfortable and luxurious, and at 1st Choice RV more and more people are inquiring about how to rent an RV in California. Given the history of the road trip and the increasing comfort and style provided by today’s motorhomes, this is no surprise. If you looking to rent an RV in California but need that extra little bit of motivation, check out these classic motorhome movies to fuel your stoke!

The Long, Long Trailer

Released in 1953, this classic film has stood the test of time. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, famous for I Love Lucy, star as newlyweds living out of a motorhome in hopes of seeing the country together while Arnaz’s character has to travel for work. Of course things aren’t always as romantic as they seem, and the couple is soon struggling with all types of hilarious turmoil. The Long, Long Trailer will have you in stitches, and can even provide some ideas on what to avoid for your upcoming motorhome road trip!

National Lampoon’s Vacation and Christmas Vacation

While not strictly motorhome movies, these two comedies are quintessential family road trip films. Released in 1983 and 1989, respectively, both chronicle the mishaps and misadventures of vacations with Chevy Chase’s Griswold family. In Vacation, Chase’s character is hell-bent on getting his family to the amusement park Wally World. In Christmas Vacation, the Griswold’s host the whole family for the holidays – including a surprise appearance by Cousin Eddie who happens to show up in what else but a beat-up motorhome!

We’re the Millers

This 2013 motorhome-themed movie may not be family friendly but sure provides the laughs. Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Anniston star as two hard-on-their-luck neighbors caught in a major bind when an international drug deal goes awry. To remedy the situation, Sudeikis’ character assembles a fake family and large motorhome to go on a “family road trip” to Mexico to make right on his debts. Once again, this flick is decidedly not for the whole family but certainly give the adults a hearty chuckle or two!

There is nothing quite like an RV road trip, and 1st Choice RV is here to help you rent an RV in California perfect for your specific needs. One needs not look further than the movies to find the allure in traveling the country via motorhome. Let’s just hope your adventures all go smoother than those in the films above!

Three Great SCUBA Diving Destinations in California

When people are wondering where to rent a RV in LA and hoping to try something different on their upcoming road trip, the first place to turn is 1st Choice RV.  Our inventory of motorhomes promises to have a little something for everyone and at every price point, and our expert staff are full of great ideas and destinations to make your road trip unforgettable.  While there are countless reasons to visit California, each year more and more are being drawn to the Pacific Coast. While there is a lot happening on the surface, the depths of the Pacific hold a very special and unique type of magic.  After answering where to rent a RV in LA and now starting to plan your road trip itinerary, consider taking a peak at California’s undersea environment. Whether you are an experienced diver or looking to learn, coastal California is full of great options.  Check out some of our favorites!

Wreck Alley in San Diego

San Diego is a road trip destination in its own right and, while the beaches, weather, and culture are draw enough, the diving is also spectacular.  Wreck Alley, in particular, offers divers the opportunity to explore a plethora of sunken ships. The Yukon, a 366 foot long Canadian Destroyer, sits at 100 feet deep and is still completely in tact.  While the Yukon is the main draw, many other ships have been intentionally sunk to create reef environments for oodles of marine life and a one of a kind diving experience.

Southeast Farallon Island State Marine Reserve

The Farallon Islands are famous for their ecotourism, but the diving here could be just as renowned.  Sea stacks dot the underwater landscape around these islands and, during summer and fall, this area of ocean is also home to populations of humpback, blue, gray, and killer whales.  Located near San Francisco, the drive up the Pacific Coast Highway from 1st Choice RV will be rewarding in its own right.  And when you get underwater, the magic will only continue.

Veteran’s Park

If your RV road trip will keep you closer to the Los Angeles area but all of this dive talk still has you excited, check out Veteran’s Park in Redondo Beach.  The underwater life here is unique and plentiful, and hopeful divers can see octopi, giant crab, many different species of fish, and even a few species of shark.  It is also one of the best places in the state to dive at night…if you’re brave!

California sees more and more visitors each year and for good reason! The Golden State has a ton to offer, yet the vast majority of people wondering where to rent a RV in LA are staying above the surface! If inspiration strikes and you want to try something new on your upcoming road trip, give SCUBA diving a try! The California coast boasts many great options and, who knows, it may just be the start of a new lifelong passion.

Tips to Travel Responsibly in your California RV Rentals

Some people that are considering using RV rentals in California as the main vehicle and means for vacation are concerned about the impact they have.  At 1st Choice RV, we totally understand this and also work with our clients to provide them the support they need to travel responsibly while on their RV road trip.  While they may not be the most fuel-efficient vehicles on the road, motorhomes are a great alternative to many other forms of recreation or vacation. Additionally, there are many steps you can take once you have picked up your California RV rentals to mediate their overall impact and lessen your concerns.  There are countless ways to vacation responsibly on the road – below are some of the easiest.

Improve your Fuel Economy with Responsible Driving

Perhaps the easiest and most obvious way to travel responsibly in your California RV rentals is to consciously work to improve your fuel economy.  By maintaining a consistent speed, driving at appropriate speeds, and not excessively exceeding the speed limit you will reduce the amount of fuel you are burning.  Additionally, by packing efficiently and not bringing excess items, you can reduce the weight of your rental RV and save on fuel as a result.

http://traveltips.usatoday.com/increase-fuel-mileage-rvs-20741.html

Recycle!

Just because you are traveling and constantly on the move doesn’t mean you need to give up the common and responsible practice of recycling.  Living out of a more confined space should motivate you to recycle and consider your purchases even more. Buy food with reusable containers or sealable bags, try to avoid unnecessary plastics like water bottles and grocery bags, and, of course, recycle all items that can be when it is convenient to do so.  Different parks or cities may have different recycling protocols and stipulations so make sure you are heeding the local rules!

Visit Responsible Destinations

The beauty of RV travel is that you can take it almost anywhere.  California has a lot to offer visitors, and the world is your oyster as far as choosing destinations goes.  You have all the power to visit places that promote responsible travel. National parks, conservation centers, and ecotourism and sustainable destinations are aplenty in The Golden State.  Supporting places like these is a great way to make a positive impact while traveling responsibly.

While California RV rentals on the surface may, to some, seem obtrusive they don’t have to be.  The truth is, there are many ways to travel and live responsibly while using a motorhome as your vehicle and abode on vacations.  The above three tips are easy to implement on your own. If you want more suggestions, our expert staff at 1st Choice RV is full of other tricks of the trade and is always eager to help!

Three National Parks Near Los Angeles and your California RV Rentals Headquarters

Summer is practically here, and that means it is time to hit the road in your California motorhome rentals and start exploring all of the natural beauty and wonder of The Golden State.  Whether you have an entire summer vacation or just a short weekend, 1st Choice RV has you covered for all of your RV rentals in California with some of the best RV rental prices California has to offer.  While we realize everyone would love to take an endless road trip in their California RV rentals, we also understand that that unfortunately isn’t a reality for most.  Thankfully, Los Angeles has plenty of world-class destinations on its doorstep – perfect for a weekend getaway. If you are hoping to explore some of the state’s national parks but only have a short weekend to do so, bump these three to the top of your California motorhome rentals road trip to-do list.

Joshua Tree National Park

An easy 2.5-hour drive from Los Angeles lays one of the most captivating desert landscapes in the continental United States.  Joshua Tree National Park is defined by stark changes in elevation that result in an undulating landscape with varying mountains, rock formations, and plant and wildlife.  Given its proximity to Los Angeles, it makes for the perfect weekend getaway in your RV rentals in California. For those fueled by adrenalin in your group, consider rock climbing.  Each year thousands of climbers descent on “J-Tree” to explore some of the world’s finest climbing.

https://www.nps.gov/jotr/index.htm

Channel Islands National Park

This one may be a bit deceptive.  The access to Channel Islands National Park is only a two-hour drive from your California motorhome rentals headquarters, yet following your arrival on the coast you can look forward to a 1 – 4 hour boat ride.  Don’t let that deter you. The Channel Islands are home to over 2,000 different species of flora and fauna, and nearly 150 of them can only be found on these islands. For those drawn to the water, this is a must visit on your California RV rentals road trip.

https://www.nps.gov/chis/index.htm

Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks

This is a two for one!  Sequoia National Park is a beautiful and easy 3.75 hour drive from Los Angeles and 30 minutes up the road, sharing a border, is Kings Canyon National Park.  Sequoia is known for its giant trees, a beautiful stretch of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and nearly 250 different caves. Kings Canyon also boasts several groves of sequoia trees, including the world’s second largest, Kings Canyon itself, and an absolutely breathtaking mountainous backdrop.  These parks will leave even the most critical nature lover totally inspired.

While not everyone has the luxury of long summer vacations, that shouldn’t be a deterrent from planning an unforgettable California motorhome rentals road trip.  Whether you have a week or a weekend, reach out to 1st Choice RV – the best in California RV rental prices – and let us help you piece together the perfect vacation!

The Best Beginner Surf Spots to take your Los Angeles Motorhomes Rentals

There is perhaps no more iconic summer destination than the California coastline.  The Beach Boys shaped their career singing about the beaches, waves, and carefree attitude that accompanies summers on the shore, and that ethic is alive and well today.  While there are countless places to explore in California, no Los Angeles motorhomes rentals road trip is complete without some time on the beach. If you would like to spice things up beyond just lounging in the sand and soaking up the California sun, check out one of these beaches known for their great beginner surf breaks, or check in with the expert staff at 1st Choice RV for more of our favorite hidden coastal secrets.

Cowell’s Beach in Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz, located on California’s Central Coast could be on your Los Angeles motorhomes rentals itinerary for a variety of reasons, but if you are hoping to try your hand at surfing it is a must visit.  Santa Cruz has a thriving surf culture and has for many decades. It is hard to not get caught up in the action. Cowell’s Beach in particular is renown as a great place for beginners to practice their skills.  Located in a small cove, this beach is protected from the conditions of the outer ocean and typically houses fairly calm waters. Pick up a long board, get in the water, and start to discover what all the fuss is about.

https://www.californiabeaches.com/beach/cowell-beach/

Surfrider Beach in Malibu

If the name doesn’t give it away, the beautiful and consistent waves rolling in certainly will.  Surfrider Beach is located in yet another surf culture hotspot. Malibu, California is nearly synonymous with surfing and beach life, and First Point at Surfrider Beach can provide you with the perfect introduction to the sport.  Many beginner and intermediate surfers take to the waters here, and the gentle waist-high waves will provide you with the perfect testing ground near 1st Choice RV where you will be picking up your Los Angeles motorhomes rentals.

http://beaches.lacounty.gov/malibu-surfrider-beach/

Sunset Cliffs in San Diego

If your road trip is taking you south, and your surfing has been improving along the way, be sure to check out Sunset Cliffs in San Diego.  The waves here provide a soft rolling swell and will typically remain that way even when conditions are much bigger on nearby breaks. Be warned, though, that this is a reef break – meaning beginners must take special care as rock and coral are just below the surface.  Many of the best surf breaks around the world occur on reefs, and Sunset Cliffs is a beautiful and comparatively mellow place to learn the ins and outs of this style of riding.

https://www.sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/parks/regional/shoreline/sunset

If you are visiting California in the summertime, spending some time on a beach should definitely be on your list.  Further, if you’re spending time on the beach and have ever wondered what it is like to catch a wave, this could be your chance.  The California Coast is littered with beginner friendly surf breaks. Add one of the above to your road trip itinerary, or talk with the experts at 1st Choice RV for even more classic coastal California destination recommendations.
